On November 17th, Park Place Catering & Banquet Hall was honored to host the 34th Annual Empty Bowls Meal, a cherished Dearborn tradition that brings the community together to fight hunger. From 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., families, students, educators, and supporters filled our centrally located Dearborn venue to share a warm meal, admire student art, and contribute to two vital local organizations: Gleaners Food Bank and Blessings in a Backpack.

Empty Bowls events take place across the globe as part of a grassroots movement in which artists and craftspeople create bowls as reminders of those who face hunger every day. Dearborn Public Schools has proudly upheld this tradition for more than three decades, and we were privileged to host this year’s milestone event.

Keeping a Dearborn Tradition Thriving

This year’s dinner carried forward a tradition that generations of Dearborn families have grown to love. Students from kindergarten through high school crafted handmade bowls and ceramic pieces, each one unique and symbolic of the event’s mission. For a suggested $6 donation, guests chose their favorite bowl to take–a simple yet powerful reminder of those in our community who face food insecurity.

The tables throughout the hall showcased pottery created during the school year, allowing guests to admire the craftsmanship and speak directly with the young artists. It was a meaningful opportunity for students to share their work while contributing to a community-wide effort.

A Meal With Purpose

A variety of soups prepared by Park Place Catering were available throughout the evening, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. Originally, Park Place was scheduled to provide the soups while other vendors supplied salad, bread, and beverages. However, when some partners were unexpectedly unable to fulfill their commitments, we stepped in to ensure the event maintained its warm, inviting experience. Our team provided salad, bread, and beverages so that every guest had a complete meal–another example of the community coming together when it matters most.

Opening Our Doors to Support the Cause

Park Place Catering & Banquet Hall was proud to donate the use of our facility at no cost for the event. With room for up to 250 guests and a location just minutes from Detroit, our hall served as the perfect backdrop for an evening of connection, generosity, and community pride. Families filled the tables to enjoy the meal, browse the pottery, and take part in the event’s activities. Students beamed with pride as their artwork was admired, and community members enjoyed a warm, welcoming atmosphere that reflected the heart of Dearborn.

Giveaways, Raffles, and Community Spirit

In addition to the meal and art displays, the event featured a tin can raffle with a variety of locally donated prizes. The raffle added excitement for attendees and helped increase the total funds raised for Gleaners Food Bank and Blessings in a Backpack. Guests who arrived early were treated to the full selection of handmade bowls and ceramics, ensuring they could choose the piece that spoke to them most. The energy in the hall captured exactly what makes this event so special.

A Night That Reflects Dearborn’s Heart

Empty Bowls is more than a fundraiser. It’s a reminder of the strength and compassion woven into the Dearborn community. With each handmade bowl taken home, each donation made, and each helping of soup served, we take another step toward supporting families who rely on the essential services these organizations provide. Park Place Catering & Banquet Hall was honored to host and help bring this event to life. We’re grateful to the students, families, teachers, donors, and volunteers who made the 34th Annual Empty Bowls Meal a meaningful and memorable success.
